Veli may be all annoyed with her for going out so late, and he may call it self-indulgence (whatever that means), but he could not deny that she was the reason they knew what was going on. Without her, they would have woken up to find their mother sick, and with no way of knowing what was wrong. Except for the healer. But that's not the point. The point is, she was useful, even if Veli would never admit it.
Itenus: So, aside from this, how have things been getting along?
Veli: Well, I guess.
Itenus: You guess?
Veli: Yeah, things are fine, but who knows, maybe Reese is off stealing another book.
Itenus shoots him a glance. Evidently, Veli is in a bad mood today.
Itenus: Ithicus isn't going to get her in trouble. After fighting with his son so much over education, he appreciates seeing a child who wants to learn. Even if she returns the books with scribbles from her imaginary friend.
